Database Administrator 5 (Database Administrator 1st Shift, Mon – Friday)

Location: Hybrid remote position based in Martinsburg, West Virginia, United States, at the VA Network Security Operations Center. 1st shift, Monday–Friday, with 24x7 on-call support one week per month.

Salary: $124,540–$160,000 annually.

What you will do

• Install, configure, harden, patch, upgrade, maintain, and administer production and development MSSQL 2022 instances.
• Perform logical and physical database design, performance monitoring and tuning, troubleshooting, capacity planning, backup and recovery, and query optimization.
• Configure and maintain SQL Agent jobs, server audits, SSIS packages, Always On Availability Groups, Transparent Data Encryption, and SSL encryption.
• Configure and administer MongoDB in an enterprise environment.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate database administration tasks.
• Collaborate with developers to design, implement, and maintain applications using MSSQL 2022, while supporting security and compliance requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or another engineering or technical discipline plus 12 years of experience; 8 additional years of relevant experience may substitute for education.
• Experience administering and setting up MongoDB in an enterprise environment.
• One approved Microsoft SQL Server certification must be obtained within six months, including MCSA, MCSE Data Platform, MCITP Database Administrator SQL 2016 or later, or MCTS.
• Ability to pass a government Tier 2 Moderate Background Investigation.
• Strong writing, communication, organizational, and troubleshooting skills; ability to work independently and attention to detail.
• Ability to travel and meet the physical requirements of the role, including sitting for up to six hours daily and lifting up to 25 pounds.
