TL;DR
Thermal Engineering Placement (12 months) (Aerospace): Supporting the analysis, modelling, design, and testing of spacecraft thermal control systems with an accent on thermal models, design trade-offs, and space physics. Focus on developing engineering analysis tools, improving departmental processes, and applying Python and Excel to complex thermal engineering challenges.

Salary: £24,500 per year

hirify.global Defence and Space designs, develops, and operates major space systems across telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, science, and exploration.

What you will do

  • Support thermal engineering analysis and testing campaigns across spacecraft missions.
  • Help lead thermal engineers build and maintain thermal models to customer requirements.
  • Support thermal control system sizing and perform design trade-offs.
  • Develop tools and analysis techniques to improve departmental efficiency.
  • Use Microsoft Excel, Python, and dedicated thermal and space physics software for engineering design and analysis.
  • Take ownership of internal process improvement tasks with support from a senior engineer.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student status must be maintained for the full 12-month placement.
  • Degree studies in physics, engineering, mathematics, design/CAD, IT, or a similar subject.
  • Strong interest in space, problem-solving ability, and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Successful candidates will undergo BPSS screening and may require UK SC-level security clearance or export-control approval.

Nice to have

  • Understanding of thermal challenges in space missions and available thermal management techniques.
  • Experience with computational modelling and simulation.
  • Advanced Excel skills for analysing results.
  • Programming experience in Python or Visual Basic.
