Senior Engineer, Materials Quality Engineering

What you will do

• Assess and qualify materials suppliers through onsite evaluations, gap identification, qualification activities, and continuous improvement projects.
• Manage supplier risk, quality performance, process controls, and mitigation plans for the Japan supplier base and manufacturing operations.
• Lead supplier change notifications, advanced quality planning, process-of-record documentation, and internal change-control activities.
• Review supplier SPC trends, metrology systems, and process-control systems, partnering with R&D on technical improvements.
• Drive supplier corrective and preventive actions and support internal and customer issue resolution.
• Collaborate with Commodity Management, Operations, R&D, Customer Quality, suppliers, and the global Materials Quality Engineering team.

Requirements

• Four-year degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Engineering; an MS or PhD is preferred.
• At least 5–7 years of experience in chemical or abrasive manufacturing, automotive, semiconductor, or another related high-tech industry.
• Deep technical understanding of chemical manufacturing, including organic and inorganic chemistries.
• Direct experience with supplier quality management and strong project management, leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate across functions, and travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.
• Fluent Japanese and English are required.

Nice to have

• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
• Experience with Minitab or JMP statistical software.
• ASQ certification or equivalent.
