Clinic Coding Specialist (Medical Coding): Reviewing oncology medical records and assigning accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes with an accent on documentation quality, payer requirements, and coding compliance. Focus on resolving documentation deficiencies, supporting denial prevention, researching reimbursement rules, and maintaining coding accuracy across surgical oncology specialties.

Location: Hybrid remote; must live in Texas. Work is based at the Central Business Office in Richardson, Texas, Monday through Friday.

What you will do

  • Review provider documentation and medical records to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
  • Apply coding knowledge across surgical oncology specialties, including breast, colorectal, gynecologic, urologic, thoracic, and general surgery.
  • Evaluate sequencing, medical necessity, modifiers, payer requirements, and documentation sufficiency.
  • Collaborate with providers and leadership to clarify incomplete, conflicting, or insufficient documentation.
  • Research coding, reimbursement, regulatory, Medicare, payer, and NCCI requirements.
  • Support denial prevention, revenue integrity, audits, provider education, and coding process improvements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a medical record technology course.
  • At least one year of medical coding experience; three years is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical records coding procedures and ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding systems.
  • Ability to meet coding quality and productivity standards and work independently on assigned queues.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality and security of protected health information under HIPAA and applicable regulations.

Nice to have

  • Applicable coding certification.
  • Medical terminology coursework.
  • Five or more years of medical coding experience and prior oncology coding experience.
  • RHIT certification.
