Referral & Precert Specialist (Medical Scheduling)

What you will do

• Schedule inpatient and outpatient tests, procedures, and appointments as directed by providers.
• Obtain and accurately complete required referrals and pre-certifications.
• Document scheduled events in medical records and maintain testing, referral, and appointment logs.
• Coordinate procedure dates, times, locations, and special instructions with patients, facilities, and providers.
• Track referrals and appointments, verify follow-up information, and report problems obtaining required authorizations.
• Collaborate with patients, physicians, and other care team members in a team-based care model.

Requirements

• Previous referral or pre-certification experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Knowledge of insurance plan, hospital, and outpatient facility requirements and guidelines.
• Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding.
• Basic computer skills.
• Education equivalent to a high school diploma or GED is typically sufficient; no license is required.
