Senior Vegetation Management Inspector

Location: Onsite in San Carlos, California, with travel and transfers throughout the PG&E service territory; field inspections may account for up to 95% of the work.

Starting wage: $47.94 per hour, subject to collectively bargained wage rates and increases.

What you will do

• Oversee vegetation management projects, including tree assessments, trimming, work verification, and field operations.
• Monitor contractor performance, work quality, contract adherence, schedules, expenses, and compliance with PG&E standards.
• Coordinate contractors, communities, agencies, first responders, and internal workgroups during project execution.
• Promote public, contractor, and employee safety, participate in tailboard meetings, and document safety observations and good catches.
• Notify property owners and agencies, obtain required authorizations, and ensure compliance with permits, traffic controls, railroad requirements, Caltrans permits, and environmental measures.
• Support outage investigations, emergency response, non-routine tag work, electronic reporting, inspector audits, and onboarding of Vegetation Management Inspectors.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Maintain a Class C driver's license and participate in the Employer Pull Notice Program.
• Meet one of the specified experience paths: five years as a tree crew climber or foreman with two years of line-clearance certification; five years as a Vegetation Management Inspector and Certified Arborist; five years as a Registered Professional Forester; five years as a Utility Inspector or higher with one year of vegetation management experience; or four years of honorable military service plus one year of vegetation management inspection experience.
• Ability to travel and transfer to a new headquarters throughout the PG&E service territory, with no guaranteed duration away from home.
• Ability to work in a heavily regulated environment and manage safety, permits, documentation, customer issues, and contractor coordination.

• Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.
• OSHA 30-hour construction safety certification or Certified Tree Safety Professional certification.
• PMI PMP certification.
• Knowledge of forestry and utility vegetation management methods and techniques.
• Influence, negotiation, organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
