Building Engineer (HVAC)

Location: New York City, United States. Fixed full-time schedule, Monday–Friday, 4:00 p.m.–12:00 a.m.; shift and on-call duties may be required.

Salary: $53.01 per hour for New York City. Additional incentive, benefits, and retirement plans may be available.

What you will do

• Operate and maintain building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, heating, refrigeration, water, and related systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, equipment repairs, and assigned maintenance projects.
• Replace filters, lamps, ballasts, fixtures, belts, and motor bearings; lubricate motors and align shafts.
• Use building software to improve energy efficiency and recommend energy-saving measures.
• Respond immediately to fires, evacuations, equipment failures, customer concerns, and other emergencies.
• Coordinate with property management, support teams, vendors, and staff while following safety procedures and applicable codes.

Requirements

• Valid NYC Refrigeration Engineer License required.
• Valid Universal CFC and HFC refrigerant certification under EPA Section 608 required.
• Experience operating, maintaining, and repairing HVAC, heaters, pumps, refrigerant systems, compressors, and water systems.
• Knowledge of energy management systems, techniques, and operations.
• Basic proficiency with Outlook, Excel, Word, and CMMS software.
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, decision-making, and interpersonal skills; ability to lift at least 50 pounds, climb, stoop, crouch, and work independently during emergencies.

Nice to have

• Additional trade licenses or permits, such as Journeyman or Master Electrician, City, Operator, or Steam Engineer licenses.
• Ability to pass a government clearance when required for specific job functions.
