Assistant Chief Engineer

Location: Commercial office property in Midtown, Manhattan, New York

Salary: $40–$42 per hour

What you will do

• Support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and performance of building systems.
• Direct engineering staff and contractors to maintain optimal building performance.
• Oversee preventive maintenance programs and work-order completion.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment issues and coordinate repairs.
• Monitor vendor performance and support capital improvements and building projects.
• Maintain tenant relationships and ensure compliance with safety regulations, local laws, and company standards.

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressive experience operating and maintaining commercial office buildings.
• Previous experience as a Lead Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or in a similar leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and building automation systems.
• Experience managing preventive maintenance programs and vendor relationships.
• Familiarity with building compliance, life safety systems, and operational best practices.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with tenants, vendors, and colleagues.

Nice to have

• Relevant licenses and certifications, including FDNY and New York City Department of Buildings certifications.
