Composites Engineer (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Design, fabricate, and procure tooling, molds, jigs, and fixtures for composite fabrication and assembly.
• Develop and document manufacturing processes for layup, bonding, curing, trimming, drilling, and assembly.
• Collaborate with design engineering to improve manufacturability, structural integrity, and production efficiency.
• Support technicians during prototype builds, troubleshoot shop-floor issues, and optimize build quality.
• Define material handling, kitting, cure-cycle parameters, work instructions, travelers, and manufacturing documentation.
• Analyze process capability, support non-conformance investigations, improve yield, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or Materials Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
• 2–5 years of hands-on composite fabrication or manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or a related industry.
• Working knowledge of carbon fiber, fiberglass, epoxy systems, hand layup, resin infusion, RTM, and bonding.
• Experience supporting technicians and shop-floor operations.
• Ability to design tooling and fixtures using CAD software and work with hand tools, measuring equipment, and basic shop machinery.
• Understanding of GD&T and proper tolerancing for tooling designs and composite fabrication drawings.

Nice to have

• Experience with PLM, MES, ERP, CAM, revision control, or change management systems.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, process optimization, and digital manufacturing.
• Experience planning timelines for complex projects.
• Familiarity with FAA or DoD requirements for composite structures.
