TL;DR
Senior Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and qualifying mechanical systems for phased-array satellite antennas, spacecraft subsystems, and interfaces across the full development lifecycle with an accent on structural analysis, electronics packaging, thermal architecture, and deployable mechanisms. Focus on conducting architecture trade studies, developing detailed CAD and FEA designs, supporting manufacturing and environmental qualification, and providing in-orbit support for space hardware.

Location: On-site in Melbourne, Florida, United States. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, conditional residents, asylees, refugees, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations under space technology export regulations.

Company

Developer of communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms.

What you will do

  • Design mechanical systems for phased-array antennas, spacecraft subsystems, payloads, and mechanical interfaces.
  • Drive designs from concept and requirements definition through architecture trades, analysis, manufacturing, testing, qualification, and in-orbit support.
  • Perform mechanical, structural, thermal, shock, vibration, stress, and dynamics analyses.
  • Develop electronics packaging, thermal architectures, deployable structures, mechanisms, and mechanical actuators.
  • Support CNC manufacturing, environmental qualification, reliability, assembly, and test activities.
  • Present engineering design reviews to customers and executives and contribute to proposal writing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • At least 5 years of space antenna and payload mechanical engineering experience; a master’s degree may count as two years of experience.
  • Experience with architectural trade studies, parametric analysis, first-order cost and physical analysis, and detailed 3D CAD design.
  • Experience with professional mechanical and FEA tools such as Ansys Mechanical, SolidWorks Simulation, and Thermal Desktop.
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing, GD&T, mechanisms, actuators, EMI/EMC mitigation, and aerospace materials or deployment mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with satellite thermal control, LEO environments, environmental qualification, and design for test, manufacturability, assembly, and reliability; excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Python, C++, or other programming experience.
  • Experience with large deployable antenna arrays and on-orbit communication or sensor arrays.
  • Robotics, control systems, or PCBA experience.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work in a startup environment.
  • Dynamic cross-functional collaboration across the organization.
  • Work focused on leading-edge communications satellites and space hardware.
