Underwriter, Professional Risks

Location: Chicago, IL, United States; hybrid with two days in the office each week. Regional travel across the Midwest and West Coast of up to 25% is required.

Salary: $70,000–$90,000 per year, plus a performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Underwrite, price, and negotiate new professional liability business and complex renewals within the architects and engineers sector.
• Write tailored commercial general liability, professional liability, E&O, and occasional cyber coverage for architects, engineers, contractors, real estate developers, construction managers, land surveyors, and related businesses.
• Develop new broker relationships and expand existing partnerships across the East Coast region.
• Collaborate with the national A&E underwriting team to share knowledge and support consistent business development.
• Maintain high customer service standards and meet quote output targets.
• Travel to broker meetings, industry events, and regional business engagements as required.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience with contractors, real estate developers, and design professional E&O coverage.
• Strong understanding of sales principles, presentations, negotiation, and business development.
• Proven ability to understand and deliver meaningful underwriting profit.
• Customer-focused, detail-oriented, results-driven, and able to identify business needs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams; a B.A. or B.S. degree is preferred.
