Systems Engineer - Database Platform (PostgreSQL)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, New York, or San Francisco, United States. Candidates who reach the offer stage may be asked to attend an in-person interview at a hirify.global office or hub.

Annual salary: $157,000–$196,000 for Bay Area hires; $150,000–$187,000 for New York hires. Compensation may vary by work location.

What you will do

• Build, deploy, and manage large-scale PostgreSQL database clusters in production.
• Develop database tooling for automation, monitoring, and performance tuning.
• Implement high-availability, backup, and disaster-recovery solutions.
• Integrate database tools with Infrastructure and Applications teams.
• Use observability tools to monitor database health and implement proactive reliability improvements.
• Optimize database performance, indexing strategies, and query execution.

Requirements

• Experience building, scaling, and managing large-scale, multi-tenant PostgreSQL clusters.
• Experience with high-availability failover and disaster-recovery strategies.
• Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform, Ansible, or Salt.
• Proficiency in Python or Bash scripting for automation and experience developing database tooling.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, database performance optimization, and query tuning.
• Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana, or similar alerting and monitoring tools.

Nice to have

• Software development experience with Go, Ruby, or C/C++.
• Contributions to PostgreSQL or relevant open-source projects.
• Experience with Flyway, Liquibase, goose, PgBouncer, HAProxy, Cassandra, Timescale, or Redis.
