Systems Engineer

Location: Hybrid in San Diego, CA, with at least 4 days per week in the office; requires travel up to 10% for land-based and at-sea test events in the U.S. and internationally.

Salary: $90,000–$184,000 per year; disclosed ranges include $90,000–$150,000 and $114,000–$184,000 depending on experience.

What you will do

• Configure and maintain IT infrastructure supporting Naval tactical applications, including hardware and software integration.
• Provide technical support, develop documentation, and deliver end-user training.
• Organize software integration test events with Navy combat systems in virtual environments and support land-based and at-sea testing.
• Develop and enforce standards and standard operating procedures for internal teams and external customers.
• Participate in requirements, configuration, design, and performance reviews with software, systems, integration, information, production, and test engineers.
• Develop solutions and processes that improve customer support and team efficiency while meeting security, reliability, and performance standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, data science, cybersecurity, mathematics, aeronautical engineering, or an equivalent level of full-time experience.
• 3+ years of experience in one or more of IT system production planning and workflow, network architecting, hardware optimization and planning, platform or systems integration and support, STIGs and system hardening, networking concepts, virtualization infrastructure, or working on multiple projects in an agile environment.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, switching, routing, firewalls, and subnetting.
• Experience with VMware and/or OpenShift Virtualization.
• Ability to travel up to 10% as needed.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.

Nice to have

• 2+ years of experience working with DoD and Naval systems.
• 1+ year of experience with Windows and Linux administration, Docker or Podman, Red Hat Linux, Cisco devices, Dell servers, Kubernetes clusters, scripting with Python, Bash, or PowerShell, or automation tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
• Experience with networking protocols including TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, IP, and HTTP.
• Current knowledge of industry trends and best practices, initiative, innovation, creativity, analytical ability, ownership, urgency, and problem-solving skills in ambiguous situations.
