Senior Cloud Database Engineer (PostgreSQL & AWS Migration Specialist)

What you will do

• Administer, upgrade, patch, and maintain enterprise PostgreSQL databases across production, staging, and disaster recovery environments.
• Optimize query performance, indexing, execution plans, storage utilization, and overall database health.
• Design and support high-availability and disaster-recovery architectures using replication, clustering, failover, WAL archiving, and point-in-time recovery.
• Manage Amazon RDS PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, and EC2-hosted databases, including IAM, security controls, and KMS encryption.
• Lead migrations from on-premises PostgreSQL, Oracle, and SQL Server environments to AWS using AWS DMS, SCT, and native utilities.
• Automate database operations and cloud provisioning with Terraform, AWS Lambda, CloudWatch, SNS, scripting, and CLI tooling while collaborating with application and infrastructure teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 12 years of database administration experience, including 8 years of PostgreSQL administration and 5 years of AWS cloud database administration.
• Deep experience with PostgreSQL upgrades, cross-platform migrations, replication, advanced performance tuning, and large-scale production databases in regulated or enterprise environments.
• Hands-on proficiency with Terraform, scripting, CLI automation, AWS database services, and secure cloud infrastructure.
• Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, communication, independent execution, and technical leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with pgBouncer, Pgpool-II, Patroni, or comparable connection-pooling and high-availability tools.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, containerized databases, DevOps workflows, CI/CD toolchains, and enterprise monitoring suites.
• AWS Database Specialty, AWS Solutions Architect, or professional PostgreSQL certification.
