TL;DR
Equipment Engineer (Vacuum) (Vacuum Manufacturing Equipment): Supporting and improving high-volume manufacturing systems for magnetic thin-film heads with an accent on vacuum technology, equipment reliability, throughput, and yield performance. Focus on diagnosing complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, gas, and vacuum issues, automating equipment KPIs, and leading continuous-improvement projects across cross-functional engineering teams.

Location: Springtown, Derry / Londonderry, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Full-time, 39 hours per week. Travel: None.

What you will do

  • Support the installation, uptime, reliability, throughput, and yield performance of high-technology manufacturing equipment.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret equipment performance data to improve decision-making.
  • Develop and automate equipment KPIs, early-detection methods, and control strategies.
  • Plan and coordinate equipment installation activities, including EHS considerations.
  • Troubleshoot and manage machine hard-down events involving electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, gas, and vacuum systems.
  • Lead equipment improvement projects and collaborate with process, facilities, R&D, industrial engineering, technicians, OEM suppliers, and Seagate sites in the USA and Asia.

Requirements

  • Knowledge or experience in vacuum technology within high-volume manufacturing, wafer fabrication, semiconductor, thin-film, or a similarly complex engineering environment.
  • Practical experience supporting, troubleshooting, or improving vacuum-based equipment such as PVD, sputter deposition, evaporation, RIE, plasma etch, dry etch, ion beam etch, CVD, or ALD platforms.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, organizational, and project leadership skills.
  • A logical and methodical approach to diagnosing complex equipment issues and the ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
  • Preferably a Bachelor's or Master's degree in electronic, mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, chemical engineering, or a related discipline, or extensive relevant semiconductor engineering experience.
  • Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
