Staff Backend Engineer, Platform (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid, with three in-office days per week at the Culver City or San Francisco FiDi location

Salary: $181,000–$265,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Design, build, and scale RESTful backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Postgres.
• Develop distributed and resilient systems in AWS and Kubernetes-based environments.
• Create shared infrastructure services and tooling used across product teams.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams to solve complex technical problems.
• Mentor teams on secure coding practices and build performant, resilient systems.
• Use automated testing practices to maintain high-quality code.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building scalable backend services in B2B financial services, fintech, or SaaS organizations.
• Proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, SQL, and databases such as Postgres or MySQL.
• Expertise in microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Ability to communicate effectively, take ownership, solve problems creatively, and work independently.
• A B.A. or B.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI, including Claude best practices.
• Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with Kafka, Temporal, Debezium, OpenTelemetry, or Snowflake.
• Knowledge of brokerage platforms and the financial services industry.
