Senior Backend Engineer, Platform (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid, with three in-office days per week at the Culver City or San Francisco Financial District locations

Salary: $170,000–$225,000 USD per year in Los Angeles, CA

What you will do

• Design, build, and scale RESTful backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Postgres.
• Develop distributed and resilient architectures in AWS and Kubernetes environments.
• Create shared infrastructure services and tooling used across product teams.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams to solve complex technical problems.
• Mentor teams on secure coding practices and build performant, resilient systems.
• Implement automated testing practices to maintain high-quality code.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building scalable backend services in a B2B financial services, fintech, or SaaS organization.
• Proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
• Strong SQL knowledge, including Postgres or MySQL.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Ability to work independently, communicate effectively, take ownership, and solve complex technical problems.
• A relevant B.A. or B.S. degree is preferred, but equivalent experience is valued.

Nice to have

• AI best-practices experience, particularly with Claude.
• Additional AWS and cloud infrastructure experience.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, especially GitLab.
• Familiarity with Kafka, Temporal, Debezium, OpenTelemetry, or Snowflake.
• Knowledge of brokerage platforms and the financial services industry.
