Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Remote within the United States; currently not hiring in Hawaii

Salary: $166K–$203K base salary, plus equity; no bonus

What you will do

• Architect and re-engineer high-throughput backend data systems serving as the single source of truth for patient data.
• Design massively scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Drive zero-to-one architectural decisions and technical strategy for a high-impact Patient Services initiative.
• Build and evolve event-driven systems and microservices.
• Mentor engineers, review architectures, and establish design patterns and operational rigor.
• Partner with product managers and cross-functional teams to shape the engineering roadmap and product vision.

Requirements

• 4+ years of related professional experience.
• Experience building distributed and event-driven systems and developing microservices.
• Experience collaborating across technical and non-technical teams.
• Fluency with AI-assisted development tools and frameworks, including the ability to maintain quality guardrails.
• Experience mentoring others, reviewing architectures, and establishing design patterns.
• Must be based in the United States; Hawaii is currently excluded.

Nice to have

• Computer Science degree or equivalent practical experience.
• On-call experience and a track record of sustainable operational improvements in customer-facing products.
• Experience in early-stage or high-growth startup environments.
• Experience with high-reliability or high-accuracy products, such as finance, healthcare, or mission-critical systems.
• Experience with Node and Kafka.
