Junior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: San Diego, United States; hybrid work with three days per week in the office

Develops a digital identity verification platform that helps organizations onboard customers, reduce costs, and combat fraud worldwide.

What you will do

• Move Discovery Agent prototypes, including Vertex AI-based solutions, through design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Improve proof-of-concept agent code with error handling, observability, testing, and cost and latency awareness.
• Build test cases and evaluation checks for agent behavior.
• Support data ingestion and pipeline development using AWS and Big Data tooling.
• Collaborate with Product and senior engineers to turn business requirements into shipped features.
• Contribute to monitoring, alerting, production support, and incident response for AI-driven services.

Requirements

• 1–2 years of experience in a software engineering or development environment.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Solid Python or backend-language skills, with the ability to write clean, readable, and testable code.
• Understanding of SQL or NoSQL databases and basic REST API design.
• Exposure to cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
• Hands-on experimentation with AI coding assistants and at least one project involving an LLM that uses tools, retrieval, chained steps, or multi-step coordination.

Nice to have

• Experience with Airflow, Dagster, OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, Spark, Presto/Trino, or Hive.
• Familiarity with TypeScript, React, or Node for full-stack projects.
• Exposure to Terraform or AWS CDK.
• Experience with LLM APIs such as Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google Vertex AI/Gemini, or agent frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, or AutoGen.
• Interest or coursework in identity verification, fraud, security, or fintech.
