Safety Manager (Construction)

Location: Falls Church, Virginia, United States; on-site construction and project duties required

Base salary: $109,000–$154,000 per year. Compensation may vary in other cities and states.

What you will do

• Manage safety performance, staffing, development, training, and performance evaluations for direct reports and assigned business units.
• Conduct and evaluate project safety inspections, including on-site inspections using Predictive Solutions System, and distribute findings and open-issue summaries.
• Analyze inspection, incident, and hazard data to identify trends, set safety priorities, and recommend improvements.
• Evaluate compliance with federal, state, local, corporate, and client safety requirements; research OSHA regulations and lead OSHA or third-party inspections.
• Lead crisis and accident/incident response, investigations, toolbox meetings, orientations, just-in-time training, safety stand-downs, and subcontractor safety meetings.
• Develop safety plans, job hazard analyses, training programs, corporate and business-unit safety goals, documentation improvements, and protective-equipment requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in safety or a related field preferred.
• CHST, CSP, or equivalent professional safety designation.
• First Aid/CPR certification.
• OSHA 30 Hour for construction required; OSHA 500 preferred.
• Five years of experience with a degree or eight or more years of construction safety experience; other professional experience or skills may substitute.
• Comprehensive understanding of high-hazard technical areas, including cranes, fall protection, scaffolds, excavation, and electrical work.
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, research, prioritization, problem-solving, independent-work, and confidentiality skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing schedules, respond to emergency or crisis conditions, work under varied environmental or site conditions, and navigate stairs, ladders, uneven floors, or ground conditions.
