Principal Dev Engineer (AI)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States

Base pay: $121,200–$225,200 annually, plus eligibility for an annual incentive bonus.

What you will do

• Support the delivery lead with AI Engineering and end-to-end delivery of the Intelligent Delivery Platform.
• Align technical execution with business needs and project performance metrics.
• Provide technical insight and troubleshoot delivery issues.
• Lead or deliver AI Engineering solutions for complex analytics and data science projects.
• Assess architectures and apply solution architecture and software engineering practices.
• Communicate technical information and present recommendations to stakeholders, including C-suite executives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Data and Analytics, Programming, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of technical application development experience.
• Experience with technologies such as J2EE, SQL, JSON, PCF, Azure, AWS, REST APIs, microservices, Mulesoft, Salesforce, Tableau, DB2, Oracle, or MongoDB.
• Experience with architecture assessments, solution architecture, software engineering, and portfolio or technology lifecycle management.
• Strong stakeholder management, leadership, communication, business, engineering, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to drive outcomes in a rapidly changing, matrixed environment.

Nice to have

• AI observability and framework operationalization experience.
• Knowledge graph database experience with Neo4j.
• Experience with small language models, custom models, AI model evaluation and deployment, and model training or fine-tuning.
• Experience with Python-based frameworks including LangChain, LangGraph, and LangFuse.
• Experience with prompt engineering, multiple AI models, RAG architectures, and multi-agent orchestration.
