Field Engineer: Cryogenics & RF Hardware (Quantum Computing)

Location: Berkeley, CA or Fremont, CA; on-site. The role requires 35%+ international travel to customer sites, potentially across multiple time zones.

What you will do

• Test, validate, and debug custom RF control systems using network analyzers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and related tools.
• Operate and troubleshoot dilution refrigerators, including cooldowns, steady-state operation, and fault diagnosis.
• Service cryogenic and vacuum systems, including pumps, compressors, high-vacuum components, and cold traps.
• Assemble, install, validate, and maintain electro-mechanical, cryogenic, vacuum, and RF assemblies.
• Prepare quantum chip assemblies, execute validation tests, and improve operating procedures.
• Support customer teams, participate in on-call coverage, and resolve issues at international deployment sites.

Requirements

• Technical background in physics, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industrial experience.
• Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting dilution refrigerators and sub-Kelvin cryogenic systems is required.
• Strong proficiency with electronic test equipment and experience with high-availability laboratory or industrial equipment.
• Experience with vacuum systems, vacuum plumbing, P&IDs, equipment assembly, and helium leak detection.
• Ability to read CAD drawings, schematics, and engineering specifications, with strong technical documentation and communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel internationally on short notice and hold or obtain required passports and visas.

Nice to have

• Field deployment or on-site customer support experience, especially in international settings.
• Experience with import/export logistics for scientific or electronic equipment.
• Programming or scripting experience in Python or related languages.
• Additional language proficiency relevant to deployment regions.
