Staff Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Crossman Service Building, Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite home office

Salary: $143,000–$286,000 annual base salary, plus performance-based bonuses and potential stock compensation.

What you will do

• Lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks.
• Drive the full software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Build Java-based microservices and AI-driven applications using cloud-native architecture principles.
• Conduct system design reviews and ensure solutions meet architectural and quality standards.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering excellence.
• Collaborate across teams to define technical requirements and optimize development processes through data-driven methods.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related area, plus 4 years of software engineering experience; alternatively, 6 years of relevant experience.
• Expertise in cloud-native architecture, microservices, containers, and automation.
• Experience with software development lifecycle management, including coding, testing, CI/CD, and maintenance.
• Proficiency in API design, prototyping, software design patterns, and secure modular solutions.
• Experience leading technical design reviews and applying DevOps engineering practices.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and influence technical direction.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related area, plus 2 years of software engineering experience.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
