Co-Op, Applied Technologies (Spring 2027)

Location: Norwood, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid 70/30 work model with significant in-office collaboration. The co-op runs from January 18, 2027 through June 25, 2027, and applicants must be available for the full duration. Only U.S. persons are eligible due to export-control requirements.

Salary: $20.00–$60.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Support a defined automation, robotics, or systems engineering project under the guidance of an engineer or scientist.
• Develop, configure, and test laboratory automation systems, robotic platforms, instruments, and related software.
• Execute experiments, characterize systems, troubleshoot issues, and collect performance data.
• Analyze experimental and test data to support engineering decisions.
• Develop or modify scripts, workflows, automation methods, and simple software tools.
• Prepare technical documentation, test plans, work instructions, project summaries, and final presentations.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree in engineering, computer science, bioengineering, robotics, automation, life sciences, or a related technical discipline.
• Relevant coursework or project experience in programming, robotics, laboratory automation, electrical or mechanical systems, systems engineering, data analysis, or biological laboratory sciences.
• Interest in applying engineering and digital technologies to scientific problems.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
• Must be available for the full co-op period from January 18 through June 25, 2027, and qualify as a U.S. person under applicable export-control laws.

Nice to have

• GPA of 3.5 or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with automation, robotics, laboratory instruments, liquid handlers, sensors, microcontrollers, or electromechanical systems.
• Programming experience with Python, C#, JavaScript, MATLAB, or a similar language.
• Familiarity with CAD, Git, data visualization, or engineering analysis tools.
• Exposure to biotechnology or pharmaceutical development, machine learning, computer vision, autonomous systems, or advanced robotics.
