TL;DR
Electrical Engineering Co-Op (MedTech): Developing and testing electrical and electromechanical surgical instruments, surgical robotics, operating room equipment, and automated data acquisition systems with an accent on circuit design, embedded systems, prototyping, and validation. Focus on designing experiments, analyzing measurements, troubleshooting hardware and software, and building reliable medical device prototypes.

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio, United States; onsite. The Summer 2027 co-op runs from 05/10/2027 to 08/13/2027. Applicants must be permanently authorized to work in the United States and must not require current or future employment visa sponsorship.

Salary: $23.50–$52.50 per hour, depending on program year, discipline, degree, and experience.

What you will do

  • Contribute to teams developing electrical and electromechanical surgical instruments, surgical robotics, electronic operating room equipment, and automated data acquisition systems.
  • Perform testing, experimentation, and validation to support product design.
  • Assist with circuit design, firmware and software development, PCB design and fabrication, system prototyping, and hardware and software debugging.
  • Support experiments, data acquisition and analysis, troubleshooting, prototype assembly, and equipment fabrication.
  • Develop laboratory tests, interpret results, and recommend next steps.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field at an accredited institution.
  • Must have completed at least two semesters before the co-op begins, be a sophomore or above, and remain a student during the term.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Permanent authorization to work in the United States for the full co-op term and no requirement for current or future employment visa sponsorship.
  • Basic knowledge of analog hardware design, embedded systems, circuit or system troubleshooting, and electrical laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes and digital multimeters.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, or equivalent scripting languages, plus demonstrated leadership or participation in campus or community programs.

Nice to have

  • Statistical analysis, Design of Experiments, risk management, and medical device industry experience.
  • Product component and subsystem design, manufacturing processes, and related design constraints.
  • Schematic capture, PCB design and fabrication, circuit simulation, and embedded programming with C/C++, VHDL, or Verilog.
  • Experience with Altium, Cadence, KiCAD, LTSpice, SPICE, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or Python for test automation and data processing.
