Software Engineering Co-Op (MedTech)

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio, United States; on-site attendance and daily transportation to the site are required

Salary: $23.50–$52.50 per hour

Johnson & Johnson MedTech develops medical devices and surgical technologies, including products for minimally invasive and open surgical procedures.

What you will do

• Design and develop product software integrated with mechanical, electrical, and distributed computing systems.
• Develop tools for testing product software in integrated environments.
• Translate technical options into formal, testable written requirements.
• Document software designs and specifications according to design control processes.
• Apply industry standards for medical device software, including IEC 62304.
• Use current engineering tools and participate in on-site and virtual training.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in an accredited bachelor's or master's program in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
• At least two completed semesters before the start of the co-op; sophomore standing or above.
• Student status throughout the co-op term, with no graduation date before January 11, 2027.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 and experience with software engineering in C, C++, and Python.
• Strong collaboration, technical leadership, and conflict resolution skills, plus a demonstrated interest in healthcare.
• Must be legally and permanently authorized to work in the United States for the full co-op term and must not require current or future employment visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Software design experience in Linux or a similar operating system.
• Experience with software testing tools such as Google Test, NUnit, or JUnit.
• Experience with Distributed Data Services and distributed data-sharing libraries, including DDS, RTI Connext, OpenDDS, or MQTT.
