Agent Engineer (AI)

Location: On-site in San Francisco or New York, United States

Salary: $175,000–$240,000 per year plus equity

What you will do

• Architect, implement, and maintain AI agents from prototype through production.
• Explore agent architectures, prompting strategies, tool integrations, and evaluation frameworks with science and engineering teams.
• Develop reusable agent skills, tool-use pipelines, and benchmarks to improve the platform.
• Work with R&D partners approximately 30% of the time to understand workflows and validate solutions in real environments.
• Translate field insights and internal research into product priorities.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production systems used by real users.
• Experience building LLM-powered tools or applications, including prompting, context engineering, agent architectures, or evaluation frameworks.
• Strong foundation in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, physics, data science, or a related technical field.
• Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript, with the ability to learn new tools and frameworks quickly.
• Ability to work across engineering, science, and product teams and operate effectively in ambiguous situations.

Nice to have

• Experience in life sciences, biomedical research, scientific computing, or technical R&D workflows.
• Experience building agent systems, tool-use pipelines, or AI evaluation and benchmarking frameworks.
• Contributions to open-source scientific or AI tooling.
