TL;DR
Naval Systems Engineer (Naval Platforms): Supporting the design, development, integration, testing, and certification of U.S. Navy submarine and shipbuilding programs with an accent on requirements engineering, system architecture, and technical analysis. Focus on resolving complex integration issues, managing verification and validation, and evaluating naval system performance, risk, interoperability, and compliance.

Location: Washington, D.C.; must be local to the work location. Flexible for occasional telework.

Salary: $110,736.50–$175,856.18 annually.

What you will do

  • Lead systems engineering activities for submarine and naval platform design, development, integration, testing, and certification.
  • Develop and manage system requirements, specifications, architectures, interfaces, and technical baselines.
  • Conduct trade studies, engineering analyses, alternatives assessments, and technical evaluations.
  • Assess system performance, feasibility, risk, interoperability, and compliance with Navy requirements.
  • Support requirements traceability, configuration management, verification and validation, and technical reviews.
  • Collaborate with NAVSEA, Navy program offices, warfare centers, shipyards, and industry partners to resolve integration issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in naval architecture, marine engineering, systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Typically 8–10 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, 6–8 years with a master’s degree, or 3–5 years with a PhD.
  • At least 5 years of relevant U.S. Navy shipbuilding, submarine, or naval systems engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting submarine new construction, modernization, or major naval acquisition programs.
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA systems engineering, technical review, configuration management, and certification processes.
  • Active Secret clearance required; active Top Secret clearance preferred.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with EB Spec 2678, SUBSAFE, Level I material controls, or related submarine and shipbuilding requirements.
  • Experience with Virginia-class, Columbia-class, or other U.S. Navy submarine programs.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering principles and tools, including SysML-based modeling.
