Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: Mexico City; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the office for candidates within reasonable commuting distance

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, troubleshoot, optimize, maintain, and scale backend services and software applications.
• Deliver high-quality product features while following coding standards, requirements, timelines, and quality expectations.
• Collaborate with development, product, QA, and operations teams on specifications, code reviews, test plans, and Agile ceremonies.
• Research, benchmark, and evaluate tools and technologies, recommending improvements for product development.
• Support software integration, performance, security, maintainability, deployments, releases, and critical maintenance activities.
• Identify bottlenecks and reliability gaps, propose solutions, and provide occasional off-hours release support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience and the ability to work independently in a team environment.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages: .NET/C#, Java, or Python, with knowledge of object-oriented principles, design patterns, and clean code.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, distributed or microservices-based architectures, relational databases, query optimization, and schema design.
• Hands-on experience with GCP or another cloud platform, Terraform or infrastructure-as-code, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and Git workflows.
• Knowledge of secure coding, performance optimization, resiliency patterns, Agile methodologies, and critical evaluation of AI-generated code from tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude.

Nice to have

• Experience with Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses, NoSQL databases, and event-driven architectures.
• Exposure to Apache Kafka, LLM APIs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, or React.
• Google Cloud or AWS foundational certification.
• Open-source contributions or an active GitHub portfolio.
