Accountant I

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; hybrid schedule with 3 days in office and 2 days remote

Base pay: $41,700–$92,800 annually, with eligibility for an annual incentive bonus.

What you will do

• Monitor, research, and balance accounts supporting financial reporting and statement preparation.
• Prepare lower-level journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Review, approve, and route transactions involving claim refunds, claim adjustments, returned checks, stop payments, recoupment cash, advance checks, and premiums.
• Support quarterly audit control testing by gathering and explaining procedures, examples, and supporting information.
• Evaluate data, investigate discrepancies, troubleshoot errors across multiple systems, and perform department system testing and implementation activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Management, or four years of accounting experience.
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
• Experience with financial systems.
• Proficiency with MS Office and Access.
• Statistical data analysis skills and clear, concise written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

• Customer service experience.
• One year of account reconciliation experience.
