Assistant General Counsel

Location: Wood Dale, Illinois, United States; periodic time at Videojet's headquarters required; occasional travel of approximately 10–15%

Salary: $180,000–$210,000 USD per year, plus eligibility for bonus pay.

What you will do

• Provide senior legal counsel across commercial, operational, regulatory, compliance, litigation, employment, and product liability matters.
• Own legal strategy and execution for assigned business units while balancing risk management with commercial objectives.
• Draft, review, and negotiate customer, supply, distribution, licensing, vendor, joint development, and strategic partnership agreements.
• Build scalable legal processes, policies, contract templates, playbooks, and fallback positions with sales and procurement teams.
• Manage outside counsel and coordinate litigation, disputes, regulatory matters, and specialized legal projects.
• Support intellectual property strategy, compliance programs, mergers and acquisitions, open innovation, and internal legal training.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active U.S. state bar membership in good standing.
• At least 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including in-house counsel experience across multiple practice areas.
• Experience with contracts, litigation, labor and employment, regulatory compliance, and complex multi-jurisdictional matters.
• Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, and open innovation transactions from due diligence through close.
• Strong business acumen, senior-level judgment, integrity, and the ability to provide practical, actionable legal guidance.
• Fluency in spoken and written English and flexibility to occasionally accommodate other time zones.

Nice to have

• Experience in marking and coding, industrial manufacturing, or other regulated industries.
• Experience designing and implementing anticorruption programs, including under the FCPA or UK Bribery Act.
• Labor and employment law experience across the EU and Latin America.
• Experience in a global, matrixed corporate legal environment or with software legal matters.
