Software Developer Lead (COBOL, z/OS Mainframe)

Location: In-office role based in Pittsburgh, PA; Strongsville, OH; Cleveland, OH; Birmingham, AL; Phoenix, AZ; Lakewood, CO; or Dallas, TX

Base salary: $86,250–$158,125 annually, plus incentive eligibility.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, enhancement, and support of complex enterprise applications running on IBM z/OS.
• Develop and maintain online and batch applications using COBOL, CICS, and JCL.
• Modernize legacy codebases while preserving performance, availability, and business functionality.
• Coordinate software delivery lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, debugging, implementation, documentation, maintenance, and production support.
• Manage deployments with Endevor or comparable tools and monitor batch workflows through CA-7 or Control-M.
• Provide technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, mentoring, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or a comparable combination of education, certifications, and experience; roles at this level typically require 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Advanced COBOL development experience, including Batch COBOL and CICS COBOL applications.
• Strong experience with IBM z/OS, CICS, JCL, legacy application modernization, performance optimization, and production support.
• Experience with Endevor or similar deployment tools, CA-7 or Control-M scheduling, and enterprise governance requirements.
• Knowledge of ACF2, VSAM, TSO/ISPF, File-AID, and EZTrieve; experience with Hogan mainframe banking environments is relevant.
