Major Case Specialist General Liability

Location: NY - Melville, United States

Annual base salary: $104,000–$171,700, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards and a sign-on bonus.

What you will do

• Investigate, evaluate, reserve, negotiate, and resolve severe and complex General Liability claims.
• Handle claims with coverage of up to $2 million and file exposure above $500,000, including customer communication, coverage analysis, liability assessment, and damages evaluation.
• Manage litigated claims by developing litigation plans, selecting and directing counsel, attending legal proceedings, and controlling legal expenses.
• Evaluate recovery potential, coordinate recovery efforts, and identify appropriate claim transfers based on severity and complexity.
• Provide technical guidance to underwriting partners and other stakeholders on reserves, claim strategy, legal trends, and resolution options.
• Mentor and coach less experienced claim professionals and contribute technical expertise to roundtables and quality reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, or a high school diploma/GED with at least four years of bodily injury litigation claim handling or comparable claim litigation experience.
• At least 5–7 years of bodily injury litigation claim handling experience.
• Advanced knowledge of coverage, liability, damages analysis, insurance contract language, exclusions, ISO forms, relevant law, and litigation processes.
• Advanced litigation management, investigation, negotiation, settlement, judgment, communication, and value-determination skills.
• Strong customer service, written and verbal communication, coaching, influence, persuasion, technology, and analytical skills.
• Insurance licenses may be required and generally must be obtained within three months of starting, with continuing education maintained as required.
