Claim Consultant - Medical Professional Liability

Location: Remote - United States; travel of 25–30% required

Salary: $87,500–$118,500 per year

What you will do

• Investigate and evaluate medical professional liability and general liability claims ranging from moderate to high complexity and severity.
• Interview insureds, claimants, witnesses, and other relevant parties; secure records and document investigation findings.
• Develop negotiation strategies, negotiate settlements within authority, and request approval for amounts exceeding authority.
• Adjust reserves, prepare claim reports, and provide status updates to claim leadership and reserve and settlement committees.
• Direct and monitor defense counsel while tracking trials, pre-trial proceedings, mediations, and arbitrations.
• Analyze insurance coverage, verify applicable policy forms, and identify risk management or underwriting issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
• 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience and/or 3–5 years of claims experience involving serious bodily injury; an R.N. or J.D. is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical, legal, and insurance terminology.
• Training in contract and policy review and application.
• Current driver’s license and ability to travel 25–30%.
• Strong written and oral communication, presentation, analytical, research, workflow design, and problem-solving skills.
