Metrology Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Onsite in Detroit, Michigan, United States. Applicants must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States. Relocation to Detroit is possible, but relocation assistance is not available.

Salary: $74,000–$94,000 USD annually, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Support metrology activities for prototype powertrain components, including dimensional and wear measurements.
• Develop and implement measurement methods, engineering test methodologies, fixtures, and procedures.
• Collect, analyze, document, and report measurement data for engineering and validation teams.
• Program and operate measurement equipment, and support calibration, maintenance, and verification activities.
• Collaborate with product engineering, quality, manufacturing, laboratory personnel, technicians, and other team members.
• Evaluate new measurement technologies and provide onsite support for validation and testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, or a related engineering field.
• 0–3 years of relevant engineering, manufacturing, metrology, or quality experience.
• Basic knowledge of metrology, manufacturing, quality systems, or engineering principles.
• Familiarity with engineering drawings, GD&T, dimensional inspection, statistical analysis, and measurement equipment.
• Basic CAD experience with Siemens NX, AutoCAD, or similar software.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree from an ABET-accredited university.
• Experience with CMM equipment, vision systems, or other dimensional measurement technologies.
• Exposure to Visual Basic, Python, or C++ scripting and programming.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 quality systems.
• Experience with automotive, powertrain, manufacturing processes, data analysis, or technical report writing.
