TL;DR
Lead Assembly Technician - Third Shift (Fusion Energy/Mechanical Assembly): Overseeing technician teams and coordinating the mechanical integration of coils, vacuum vessels, instrumentation, support structures, tooling, diagnostic systems, and superconducting cable bundles into the SPARC tokamak with an accent on precision assembly, lifting operations, safety, and schedule execution. Focus on organizing shift work, resolving assembly issues, coordinating with engineering, metrology, and quality teams, and completing complex integration activities in a high-hazard environment.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site, weekday third shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Salary: $32–$52 per hour plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Oversee and coordinate technician teams performing assembly operations according to the project schedule.
  • Review work orders covering mechanical, welding, electrical, and lifting activities.
  • Assign technicians to operations, lead daily kick-offs and shift handoffs, and report progress.
  • Support component lifts and movements, including coordination of rigging and specialized external work teams.
  • Perform visual inspection buy-offs and troubleshoot assembly issues, workarounds, and non-conformances.
  • Coordinate with engineers, metrology, quality, and testing teams to complete precise and safe assembly work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in a highly technical assembly environment, such as aerospace, semiconductor, oil and gas, power plants, wind, racing, or automotive.
  • 2–3 years of experience overseeing teams of five or more people and experience completing large-scale projects end to end.
  • Experience assisting lifting operations and knowledge of joining and integration methods, including bolted interfaces, flanges, welding, and epoxies.
  • Ability to work on-site in Devens, Massachusetts, on the weekday third shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work around confined spaces, elevated platforms, industrial hazards, high voltage, strong magnets, lead, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

  • 10+ years in highly technical assembly and 3+ years leading teams of ten or more.
  • Forklift operation, basic machining, tooling design, rigging, and heavy-component lifting experience.
  • Knowledge of vacuum systems, clean rooms, cryogenic systems, metrology, and precision alignment.
  • Experience with JIRA, Manufacturo, or other work-tracking software.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel or work nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.
