TL;DR
Test Specialist (Aerospace): Supporting development, qualification, and acceptance testing for Haven-1 components and structures with an accent on instrumentation, data acquisition, structural testing, and test-setup troubleshooting. Focus on configuring hydraulic, leak, and pneumatic tests, selecting sensors, processing test data, and leading test technicians during critical mission milestones.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; occasional travel to Mojave Air and Space Port with short notice; work may involve elevated heights and outdoor environments.

Pay range: $40–$70 USD per hour.

What you will do

  • Support engineering projects and test campaigns with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Set up and operate structural, mechanisms, hydraulic, leak, and pneumatic pressure tests for development, qualification, and acceptance campaigns.
  • Prepare test setups involving cranes, lifting operations, fixtures, hoses, fittings, and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot data acquisition and test setup issues, implement solutions, and improve test procedures, automation, robustness, and duration.
  • Review test requirements, RFQs, SOWs, and equipment needs while supporting fixture design and Design for Manufacturability/Test practices.
  • Train and mentor less experienced team members and lead groups of two or more test technicians.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in a specific testing field combined with electrical experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Experience with instrumentation such as strain gauges, load cells, pressure transducers, thermocouples, and deflection transducers.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems, data logging, data processing, equipment calibration, and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted and work at elevated heights and in outdoor environments.
  • Must be a U.S. person under U.S. export-control regulations or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Nice to have

  • Experience with hydraulic load and structural testing or leak and pneumatic pressure testing for aerospace components or vehicles.
  • Knowledge of aerospace testing standards such as SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-810G, and GSFC-STD-7000B.
  • Experience with test procedure software, Jira, and Google Workspace.
  • Light fabrication skills including welding, machining, sheet metal work, drilling, milling, and lathe operation.
