TL;DR
GC/GCMSMS Analyst II (Pharmaceutical Testing) (GC-MS/MS, GC-FID, HPLC): Performing pharmaceutical sample preparation, method development, validation, transfer, and routine analysis in a biopharmaceutical chemistry laboratory with an accent on chromatography, GMP/GLP compliance, and analytical data integrity. Focus on troubleshooting instruments and methods, investigating out-of-specification results, maintaining calibration and quality control, and mentoring junior laboratory staff.

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada; relocation to Mississauga, ON is expected in 2026

Salary: CAD 55,000–60,000 yearly

What you will do

  • Perform sample preparation, mobile-phase preparation, and routine analysis of APIs, raw materials, and finished pharmaceutical products.
  • Develop, validate, transfer, and troubleshoot analytical methods using GC-MS/MS, GC-FID, HPLC/UPLC, and other laboratory instruments.
  • Operate, calibrate, qualify, and maintain GC, GC-MS/MS, HPLC, LC-MS/MS, UV, IR, FTIR, and KF instrumentation.
  • Process, review, and report analytical results while maintaining data integrity, traceability, laboratory records, and LIMS updates.
  • Recognize out-of-specification and out-of-trend results and assist with laboratory investigations and risk assessments.
  • Coordinate method transfers, write SOPs, support laboratory operations, and train or mentor junior staff.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. in Chemistry or a related diploma, with a solid chemistry background.
  • 2–7 years of experience working with analytical instrumentation and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with GC-MS/MS and GC instruments using headspace FID and TCD detectors.
  • Experience executing methods from USP or EP pharmacopeias and working with pharmaceutical products.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and pharmaceutical data acquisition or laboratory systems such as Chromeleon, MassHunter, e-LIMS, and eQMS.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment, including standing for more than 50% of the time, handling hazardous materials with PPE, and working shifts, overtime, periodic weekends, or evenings.

Nice to have

  • Experience working in a contract laboratory.
  • Experience with additional instrumentation such as ICP-MS and related advanced analytical techniques.
