Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Django)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, with three days per week in the office

Salary: $145,000–$230,000 per year depending on location and experience, plus equity.

What you will do

• Build and ship backend features in a Django monolith for document viewing, editing, embeds, exports, and integrations.
• Develop new greenfield systems that expand the platform’s capabilities.
• Improve performance and reliability by optimizing database queries, endpoints, and caching layers.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver reliable experiences at scale.
• Contribute to technical discussions and guide longer-term architectural evolution.
• Conduct code reviews, maintain test coverage, and improve observability and engineering quality.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building backend applications at high scale and availability.
• Extensive experience with Python.
• Experience optimizing endpoint performance and database queries.
• Strong advocacy for automated testing and established engineering best practices.
• Ability to work from San Francisco and attend the office three days per week.
