TL;DR
VAVE Expert (Security and Detection Engineering): Driving Value Analysis, Value Engineering, Functional Analysis, and Design-to-Cost across security screening and detection products with an accent on product architecture, lifecycle cost, safety, and regulatory compliance. Focus on facilitating engineering workshops, challenging design assumptions, evaluating alternative architectures, and delivering measurable cost and competitiveness improvements.
Location: Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom; flexible hybrid working with regular onsite periods and occasional travel to European sites, including Wiesbaden, Germany.

What you will do
- Lead Value Analysis and Value Engineering assessments across new and existing security and detection products.
- Facilitate Functional Analysis workshops with Systems, Electronics, Mechanical, Product Engineering, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Influence product concepts, architectures, and design decisions through Design-to-Cost and target costing methodologies.
- Analyse functional building blocks, conduct competitive benchmarking, product teardowns, and reverse-engineering activities.
- Support make-versus-buy decisions, technology selection, supplier innovation workshops, and business cases for value improvement.
- Coach engineering teams in VAVE practices and drive measurable cost reduction, margin improvement, and product competitiveness.
Requirements
- Engineering background in Electronics, Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, or Product Engineering.
- Practical experience applying Value Analysis and Value Engineering methodologies.
- Strong understanding of Functional Analysis and Design-to-Cost principles.
- Experience with complex engineered products and assemblies, including the ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Strong workshop facilitation, stakeholder engagement, analytical, problem-solving, and systems-thinking skills.
- Eligible for UK SC Clearance.
Nice to have
- Electronics engineering experience.
- Experience in security screening, detection systems, aerospace, defence, medical devices, or other highly regulated technology sectors.
- Knowledge of Functional Cost Analysis, Target Costing, VAVE toolkits, DFMA, Lean, Six Sigma, or cost management.
- Experience with product teardown, benchmarking, and reverse engineering.
