Systems Engineer - Defence

Location: Hybrid, 3–4 days per week in Glasgow or Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Salary: GBP 35,000–GBP 65,000 per year

What you will do

• Deliver systems engineering activities across the full V-model lifecycle, from requirements capture and architecture through integration, verification, validation, and delivery.
• Capture, manage, and maintain system requirements in DOORS with full traceability to design and testing.
• Support and lead system integration across embedded software and sensor subsystems.
• Define system architectures, interfaces, and functional behaviour for complex real-time systems.
• Develop and execute integration and system-level test strategies.
• Participate in design reviews, technical governance, risk-based decisions, defect management, upgrades, and configuration control.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant systems engineering experience in defence, aerospace, or safety-critical environments.
• Experience with the requirements, design, and architecture stages on the left-hand side of the V-model.
• Hands-on requirements engineering experience, including elicitation, decomposition, and traceability.
• Experience with DOORS or a similar requirements management tool and with system interfaces and integration.
• Experience supporting integration, verification, and validation of complex systems.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or a relevant technical military background with equivalent experience; must be willing and eligible to obtain SC security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with opto-electronic, optical, or sensor-based systems.
• Knowledge of MBSE, SysML, or other systems modelling techniques.
• Experience decomposing complex systems into subsystem architectures.
• Knowledge of real-time embedded systems and test procedure development.
• Background in maritime or defence programmes.
