Manager, Mechanical Design Engineering (Silicon Photonics)

Location: Thiendorf, Germany; hybrid work with home office available

What you will do

• Lead the multidisciplinary sustaining engineering team across mechanical, electrical, software, and systems engineering.
• Own the customer change process for released Triton silicon photonics test platforms.
• Resolve field issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Track reliability performance of fielded systems, including MTBF.
• Drive cost-down, design-for-manufacturability, component obsolescence, and supplier qualification programs.
• Define acceptance criteria and participate in gate reviews for NPI-to-sustaining product handoffs.

Requirements

• 7+ years of engineering experience in semiconductor capital equipment, semiconductor manufacturing, or comparable high-reliability complex systems.
• Experience owning released products in production environments, resolving field issues, and leading continuous improvement programs.
• Experience working across geographically distributed teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Strong documentation, process, and configuration management skills.
• Ability to recruit senior engineers and bring structured judgment to customer escalations and production issues.

Nice to have

• 5+ years of experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, including sustaining, NPI, or product engineering functions.
• Experience with silicon photonics, wafer probing, or test and measurement technologies.
• Knowledge of FMEA, accelerated life testing, MTBF modeling, and DFx practices.
