Electrician Fully Qualified (Waterbury, CT)

Location: Waterbury, Connecticut, United States; onsite work involving substations, indoor and outdoor facilities, emergency restoration, and travel to work locations

Salary: $54.96 per hour, progressing according to the union contract

What you will do

• Inspect, maintain, repair, install, and operate substations, switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, relays, controls, cables, and related electrical equipment.
• Perform electrical testing with meggers, ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters, DLRO/Ductor equipment, gas-quality meters, and other standard instruments.
• Execute switching operations at any voltage and follow switching and tagging procedures.
• Work on energized conductors using approved tools and protective equipment, including conduit, bus work, wiring, and transformer connections.
• Identify, correct where possible, and report abnormal conditions; assist with training electrician helpers and escort non-qualified personnel.
• Support on-call, overtime, storm restoration, emergency assignments, vehicle operation, grounds maintenance, and snow removal.

Requirements

• Five years of experience in the Time Merit Progression program for electricians, or documented prior experience as a qualified utility electrician.
• High school diploma or equivalent; additional formal education is preferred.
• New hires must hold an Electrician E-1 or E-2 license, or provide verification of equivalent qualified utility electrician experience; other candidates must complete the TMP for Electrician.
• Thorough knowledge of substation, transmission, and distribution equipment, systems, construction methods, maintenance procedures, safety practices, codes, and regulations.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid CDL license and Switching and Tagging certification.

• Applicants must successfully pass the CAST Construction and Skilled Trades Selection System test and be able to lift 50 pounds, climb structures, and work in varied weather and hazardous electrical conditions.
