Manager, Software Engineering (AI)

Location: U.S. Remote

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 base salary annually, plus equity and bonus.

What you will do

• Lead, hire, coach, and develop a team of software engineers within the Iris AI organization.
• Translate product and engineering roadmaps into operational plans, priorities, resourcing, and delivery commitments.
• Manage feature delivery, reliability, technical debt, and LLM cost and latency.
• Establish evaluation harnesses, prompt and agent regression testing, and production monitoring for non-deterministic AI systems.
• Ensure AI features meet security and privacy standards, including tenant isolation, prompt-injection defenses, tool-misuse prevention, and responsible audit-data handling.
• Oversee code and design reviews and the team's infrastructure as code, CI/CD, monitoring, on-call, and incident response.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of direct software engineering management experience and 7+ years designing, building, and shipping enterprise software to production.
• Hands-on experience shipping LLM-based products using platforms such as Azure AI Foundry, OpenAI API, Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, Anthropic API, or similar.
• Fluency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar, including spec-driven development and verified, tested output.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, API design, microservices, multi-tenant SaaS architecture, and a major cloud provider, with Azure preferred.
• Must not require any type of U.S. work authorization now or in the future, including F1-OPT, F1-CPT, H-1B, TN, L-1, or J-1.

Nice to have

• Experience building MCP servers, function or tool-calling interfaces, plugins, APIs, or integrations used by AI agents.
• Expertise in Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience launching teams or products in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
• Experience establishing AI-first engineering practices and measuring their impact.
