AI Engineering Manager, GenAI Platforms

Location: Chicago, Illinois, or New York, New York, United States. Hybrid work combines working from home with on-site presence at client or hirify.global offices for most of the week. Client-facing work may require travel.

Salary: $197,000–$216,000 per year, plus potential bonus incentives, relocation benefits, leave policies, insurance, and retirement benefits.

What you will do

• Lead architecture and system design for large-scale distributed, multi-tier applications across frontend, API, service, data, and AI layers.
• Define engineering standards, design patterns, service boundaries, API approaches, data models, and platform architecture decisions.
• Architect and build production-grade GenAI systems using LLMs, prompt pipelines, model APIs, and agentic or workflow-based approaches.
• Guide engineers through design reviews, code reviews, technical debt resolution, and scalable implementation practices.
• Own planning, prioritization, risk identification, and execution across parallel high-impact workstreams.
• Partner with Product, AI/ML, Data Engineering, DevOps, and Consulting teams to deliver reliable, observable, cloud-native platforms.

Requirements

• Deep software engineering experience with strong foundations in computer science, data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Engineering management or technical leadership experience with the ability to remain technically credible and hands-on.
• Experience building and scaling distributed, multi-tier applications across backend, services, data, and AI layers.
• Strong backend engineering skills, preferably with Python, and familiarity with FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, API design, service-oriented architecture, data modeling, and storage systems.
• English fluency and authorization to work in the United States without requiring current or future employer visa sponsorship.
