Test Engineer (Autonomous Surface Vessels)

Location: On-site in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, United States; up to 50% travel to customer locations, test ranges, coastal facilities, and maritime environments.

Salary: $115K–$140K annually, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Develop, document, and execute test plans for mechanical, electrical, software, embedded, and integrated ASV systems.
• Define test objectives, success criteria, configurations, and data requirements with engineering teams.
• Test autonomy algorithms, control systems, sensors, navigation, communications, propulsion, perception, and payload integrations.
• Diagnose failures across hardware, software, networking, communications, and mechanical interfaces; isolate root causes and validate corrective actions.
• Capture and analyze telemetry, sensor, system, and mission data, then prepare reports with findings, risks, and recommendations.
• Prepare and operate ASVs during dockside testing, sea trials, open-water events, demonstrations, and field deployments.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in test engineering, systems integration, field testing, or a related discipline involving complex systems.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, software, and embedded systems in robotic or autonomous platforms.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting integrated systems and working with CAN, UDP, and TCP/IP communication protocols.
• Experience testing or operating autonomous, robotic, or remotely operated systems, with strong analytical and technical documentation skills.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
• Willingness to work in marine, coastal, and offshore environments, travel up to 50%, work non-standard field hours, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Ocean Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience with ASVs, UUVs, UAVs, or other autonomous robotic platforms.
• Familiarity with ROS2, MOOS-IvP, PX4, Linux, test automation, scripting, maritime safety, or sea trials.
• Experience supporting defense, aerospace, maritime, or other mission-critical systems.
