Database/MES Developer

Location: Onsite in Rochester, New York, United States; full-time onsite attendance is required. The role may be eligible for relocation benefits. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship, including H-1B, TN, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, or J-1 sponsorship.

Base compensation: $83,800–$127,300 per year, plus potential incentive pay.

What you will do

• Maintain and support manufacturing servers, applications, SCADA systems, and plant-floor systems.
• Troubleshoot databases and support interfaces between databases, MES, PLCs, SCADA, and manufacturing applications.
• Maintain and enhance the plant’s part-tracking website using Python.
• Analyze production data to identify quality, efficiency, uptime, and process-improvement opportunities.
• Support upgrades, testing, validation, deployment, backups, monitoring, and recovery procedures.
• Investigate production and system issues, perform root-cause analysis, document solutions, and provide onsite technical support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Basic to intermediate SQL skills, including queries, joins, data validation, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of Python and web-based application development.
• Experience collaborating with Controls Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Plant Operations, IT, Quality, Maintenance, and equipment suppliers.
• Ability to work onsite in Rochester, New York, on a full-time basis.
• Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Experience with MES, SCADA, SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or industrial manufacturing systems.
• Experience with Python applications, websites, APIs, scripts, or automation tools.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation or Allen-Bradley controls and Studio 5000.
• Knowledge of PLC-to-database, SCADA-to-database, or MES-to-database interfaces and industrial communications such as Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, or MQTT.
• Experience with Windows Server, virtualization, manufacturing data analysis, version control, testing, and software deployment.
