Director, Engineering and Design (EV Charging/BESS)

Location: Remote with approximately 10–15% travel.

What you will do

• Lead project engineering across drafting, design engineering, and utility interconnection for a portfolio of EV charging, BESS, and edge compute sites.
• Own design package content, quality gates, engineering throughput, standards, CAD specifications, and QA/QC from conceptual design through issued-for-construction packages.
• Build and lead internal engineering teams while selecting, contracting, and managing external engineering and interconnection consultants.
• Serve as the senior technical authority on utility interconnection and Authority Having Jurisdiction permitting requirements.
• Own engineering inputs to project schedules, budgets, estimating, technical due diligence, and repeatable unit-cost models.
• Partner with Development, Execution, Origination, Procurement, and Fleet Operations to improve the site-to-energized process through tooling and automation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline, or 12+ years of directly related professional experience.
• 10+ years of progressive engineering experience in EV charging, renewable energy, power infrastructure, or utility-scale development, including design management through construction.
• 5+ years leading engineering teams, including managing managers and scaling a design organization.
• Experience owning engineering standards, design package content, and QA/QC across concurrent projects.
• Deep knowledge of utility interconnection, new electrical service, AHJ permitting, IEEE 1547, utility tariffs, and interconnection rules.
• Expertise in AutoCAD and design and review tools including Procore and Bluebeam.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience delivering EV charging infrastructure, BESS, or edge compute and data-center power projects.
• Experience building repeatable, unit-cost-driven design programs in a high-growth environment.
• Master’s degree in engineering or an MBA.
