Senior Project Engineer, EPC and Commissioning - Battery Storage (BESS)

Location: Remote-first, with work-from-home or hybrid options from offices in The Woodlands, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Brooklyn, Denver, Palm Beach Gardens, and Birmingham. Travel to project sites is required intermittently, up to approximately 30% per year.

Salary: Starting at $175,000 annually, plus eligibility for an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Lead technical deliverables for the design, construction, and commissioning of utility-scale BESS projects.
• Coordinate with third-party engineering firms, EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, utilities, developers, and consultants.
• Support interconnection agreement definition, review, negotiation, and execution for integration into the U.S. power grid.
• Prepare RFQ and RFP packages, project scopes of work, schedules, budgets, cash flow projections, and technical contract requirements.
• Support permitting and regulatory applications and respond to stakeholder inquiries.
• Travel to project sites before, during, and after construction to support project execution.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a Power Engineering focus.
• 5–7+ years of experience in project engineering, development, procurement or contracting, and construction management in power generation, utility, or transmission industries.
• Experience with the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of high-voltage utility substations, switchyards, and transmission systems.
• Experience leading cross-functional projects from feasibility evaluation through development, design, engineering, and construction.
• Knowledge of permitting, regulatory matters, environmental compliance, real property, interconnection, transmission, equipment markets, and construction services.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, MS Project, SharePoint, Excel, AutoCAD or equivalent, and Revu Bluebeam.

• Experience working for or with a major utility.
• Strong understanding of the battery energy storage value proposition or BESS engineering fundamentals.
