Claim Specialist - Property Field Inspection (Property Claims)

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan area. Candidates must reside within one of the listed ZIP codes and service the same territory. This is a remote-field role combining work from home with in-person field appointments using a mobile office/vehicle; occasional travel outside the assigned area may be required.

Salary: $69,398.62–$99,000 annually, plus potential yearly incentive pay of up to 15% of base salary.

What you will do

• Conduct on-site inspections and assessments of residential and commercial property damage.
• Investigate and adjust personal and commercial property claims with exposures up to $500,000.
• Meet with policyholders, explain coverage, gather evidence, document findings, and prepare detailed reports.
• Evaluate policy terms and coverage, determine claim validity, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
• Negotiate and settle claims within authorized limits while providing responsive customer service.
• Collaborate with policyholders, agents, and other stakeholders, including during difficult or emotional conversations.

Requirements

• Ability to investigate problems, evaluate information, interpret detailed policies, and make well-supported decisions.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and customer-service skills.
• Proficiency with mobile and desktop tools for documenting and supporting claims in the field and remotely.
• Physical agility to frequently lift, carry, climb ladders, navigate roofs at various heights, and crawl in tight spaces.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Successful completion of required training, licensing examinations, motor vehicle record checks, background checks, and possible pre-employment assessments.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent property claims experience.
• Strong knowledge of property insurance policies, coverage, and claims handling.
• Knowledge of residential and commercial building construction.
• Water mitigation inspection experience.
• Experience with Xactimate and XactContents.
